>Sweetwater Creek by Anne Rivers Siddons

Oh, how I loved this book. I didn’t read it, per se, but listened to the audio book. The reader was fantastic, and the story, with all its poetry and ambiance of the deep south left me with a feeling that I’d been on a wonderfully relaxing vacation.

Pat Conroy comes to mind as a comparison. The language was some of the most engaging and beautiful I think I’ve ever heard. The story itself is not complicated…it’s a coming of age story of a 13-year old girl. Nothing earth-shattering there…but Ms. Rivers-Siddons turned Emily’s story into something truly magical.

I listened to the book on my way to and from work every day for a week. Best story I’ve listened to in years–half the time I felt like I was curled up around a fire with a warm quilt.
Someday, I’m going to write something this good…well, I’m going to try anyway. 🙂
