The Business of Writing #sixsunday

Thanks for visiting my site for Six Sentence Sunday! This week, from my nonfiction book, The Business of Writing:

I realized from my own experience and the experience of other writers I know that the number one question a writer asks after starting to live the dream is this—what do I do about the money?

Right now, you’re in one of 3 places.

  • You’re getting started and aren’t making a lot of money yet.
  • You’ve been writing and are making some money.
  • You’ve been writing and are making more money than you ever imagined.

No matter which of these categories you fall into, you will find information in this book to help you take control of your finances.

  1. Alix Cameron

I think I need this book!

  2. I don’t even know where I am among those choices. lol.

  3. Good six, different. Nice summation of the stages of being a writer!

  4. lol I agree with Gem. Those choices don’t really fit. I think I fall somewhere in between 1 and 2. Congrats on the book!

  5. Interesting six! I was just talking taxes with a new-writer friend this week. I’ll send her this link. 🙂

  6. I think I’m somewhere between 1 and 2 but closer to 1… Not seeing too much money yet 🙂

  7. I know where I’d like to be 🙂

  8. You’re absolutely right – writing is a business and each writer needs to think that way to make the money.

  9. I just ran the numbers (total sales and total earnings) for my entire fiction writing career last night, something I’d put off for a long time knowing I had to rework my spreadsheets. This is a timely six for me!

  10. I’m at #2 – but would quite like to be at #3 😉

  11. I’m in group 1 but always have my eye on group 3. LOL Excellent 6 selection.

  12. Wouldn’t everyone love to be at number 3? 😉 I’m still at the beginning though. But heading toward #2.

  13. I’m in a version of number 1 I guess. I’ve been writing since college but haven’t published yet and so am making zero money. I’d definitely like to read your book. Btw, was about to read your six sunday when I saw your comment on mine — Thank you for your comment!

  14. This sounds like a useful reality check book. It would have scared the heck out of me before I ever made any money at writing, but having made a little, I can see the common sense in handling it wisely!

  15. Interesting six, with a great purpose.

  16. So refreshing to read something from nonfiction. I have to look for this one.
