“Pick a star on the dark horizon and follow the light. You’ll come back when it’s over; no need to say good-bye.”
Ever hear that song by Regina Spektor, The Call? Awesome.
What kind of music do you listen to when you’re working? I often keep YouTube open while I’m on my computer and play whatever strikes me at the time. The only problem with YouTube, of course, is every few minutes I am distracted and have to pick something another song.
I also use Pandora, which solves that problem. If you haven’t tried it, you should check it out (www.pandora.com). The songs Pandora plays are based on your own preferences. You simply note by a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”–click which songs you like, and Pandora adjusts the play list based on your feedback. And it’s free. Gotta love that.
Of course, there’s always my ipod or iphone, too. The radio. Television music. Lots of places to find music to listen to, and a huge benefit in productivity. It’s funny because I find myself writing things into stories based on the feelings I’m experiencing as I listen—gives the writing a depth I can’t access in total quiet.
Right now I’m listening to Neil Diamond, I Am I Said. No matter how much time goes by, I still love that song…
