No one knows the advertising game better than Julia-sell the sizzle, not the steak. However, selling sirloin and selling herself are two different things. When she tries to generate sizzle in a coworker, he’s more interested in paper shuffling than anything juicy she has to offer.
Eric, her long-time best friend and co-worker, feels the sizzle all right. The sizzle of the rare and beautiful Julia…and a searing jealousy as he watches her try to seduce another man. If Julia is ready to hit the sheets with someone, he’s determined it’s going to be him. But he needs a plan. Like her clients, Julia doesn’t respond to the direct approach; she needs to learn to generate her own heat. So Eric cooks up his own little continuing education class. Something he likes to call Seduction 101.
As you can no doubt tell from its cover price, Moira Reid’s Seduction 101 is a very short story. Nonetheless, it feels satisfyingly complete and the pacing is good for a story of its length.
Meet Julia. She is trying to catch the eye of the newest guy in their advertising firm workplace, but Harris so far isn’t biting the various baits she is throwing her way. Her antics definitely catch the eye of Eric, her best buddy whom she believes to be gay. Wait, Eric is gay, right? Of course he isn’t, or else there won’t be a story here. And just like every fool who has ever been in those shoes, instead of bringing out the bling-bling and telling Julia to pick him because he has a bigger bank account as well as the biggest penis in the land, he decides to get to Julia by offering to teach her over the weekend how to catch Harris’ attention.
The whole premise has been overused way too many times, but in Seduction 101, Ms Reid manages to make the clichéd elements in her story work very well. She has the characters acknowledging playfully the sillier aspects of the premise, for example, and heaven knows, in this story, the characters can be quite silly when it comes to their feelings. Nonetheless, they may be silly but they are certainly not stupid, which makes a big difference when it comes to my enjoyment of the story. I’m not sure if I can really believe that they are in love by the end of the story, but that’s okay, they do like each other and they can take it from there and find their way eventually.
Therefore, while Seduction 101 seems like another routine rehash of a familiar story on the surface, Ms Reid has managed to put a decent spin of her own on the formula and this makes her story fun to read as a result. The characters are likable silly fools and their falling in love, be it by the last page or five years later, does feel very right indeed. –Mrs. Giggles, Rating: 81
Julia is trying to get Harris’s attention. Although isn’t noticing her, Eric is. She works at Masters & Masters Advertising. Eric is so jealous that Julia is spending so much effort trying to get an arrogant guy like Harris but regrettably Julia has no interest in him. Julia asks Eric why he can’t come up with a training manual on seduction as he is so good at coming up with manuals for work. He thinks that is a great idea. Eric tells Julia that if she joins his three-day-three-night program that when Monday comes, she will be found irresistible. Julia agrees to enroll in Eric’s program. How hard can it be seeing as Eric is gay? The lessons are going very well except that Julia is starting to develop feelings for Eric. Why does Eric have to be such an excellent teacher in the ways of seduction?
It started out funny and than rapidly changed to raging hot, reading how Eric taught Julia the fine art of seduction. I mean what is not funny when Julia thinks she is doesn’t need lessons on kissing and Eric is asking her things like, “Do you have a brother? Because the way you kissed is something you would give your brother or grandmother.” Julia is about to find out there is more to Eric than she thinks. If Eric taught Julia is only Seduction 101 then I want to know what comes next. Moira Reid is a new author for me but after finishing Seduction 101 she has now just gone on my list of authors to watch out for. Seduction 101 is a very satisfying read. If you are looking for fun and lots of romance then Seduction 101 is your kind of book. –Fallen Angel Reviews, 5 Angels
